Before & After: The Crestview Renovation

Sometimes, a bathroom already has everything it needs in terms of layout and function, but could use a little refresh. That was exactly the case with our Crestview Renovation, a 1990s Colonial Revival bathroom that was ready for a new look. As the family prepared to welcome a new baby, we focused on targeted improvements, beautiful materials, and clever ways to make the most of the renovation budget.

The Vanity

One of the things we liked about the original bathroom was how much storage it offered – including a dedicated linen closet – so there was no reason to rethink any part of the layout. Instead, we worked within the existing footprint and found ways to make even better use of the space. By slightly extending the vanity length, we accommodated larger central drawers, while full-overlay Shaker cabinet door fronts gave the piece an updated look. To make the vanity feel even more bespoke, we customized a beautiful taupe paint color that introduced a lovely sense of warmth to the space.

The Shower

One of the requests for the shower was to preserve its brightness as the bathroom can feel dark at different times of the day. To create a stronger connection to the home’s architecture, we replaced the existing square tile with a classic elongated subway tile. This gave the shower a more traditional look while maintaining the lightness the homeowners loved. To add personality, we incorporated a recessed shower niche with a soapstone shelf and finished the space with a floral-patterned shower curtain.

The Details

Some of our favorite decisions in this renovation came down to the finishing touches. We invested in classic polished nickel faucets and beautiful marble mosaic floors, knowing these details would make a lasting impression. But perhaps our favorite find was the soapstone countertop. We were lucky enough to source a gorgeous remnant slab which brings all the character and depth of a natural stone into the bathroom for half the cost. It is one of those little wins that makes a renovation especially rewarding.

The Crestview Renovation is a lovely reminder that a room doesn’t always need a completely new layout to feel transformed. Sometimes, it’s about recognizing what is already working well and making changes where they matter most.
